Member Highlight |
Member Highlight: Susan and Fred Kjar
Hometown: St. Louis
Date Joined: April 2005
Membership Type: Private Quarters Club
For Susan and Fred Kjar, the golf course was the deciding factor for Private Quarters Club at Porto Cima membership. When they first arrived to tour Private Quarters, they didn’t plan on joining. After seeing the course, however, they were impressed with the total value of the membership. “The best thing is the golf course,” Susan says. “It is a great course to play at.” The Kjars also appreciate the Private Quarters Club staff. “Everyone is extremely friendly and easy to work with,” she says. “It is always a pleasant experience.” |

Easy Exercise: Putting |
| Maintain your triangle to roll your putts. Using an old wire hanger, bend it so that you can put both arms through the hanger (just above the elbows). Practice hitting putts while maintaining the triangle created between your elbows and hands. |

Clubhouse Culinary: Chicken Insalada |
|
Chicken Insalada is the most popular item on the menu at the Club. “This recipe is a great meld of flavors,” club manager Jimm Moody says. “Each ingredient is distinct in its own right: the Bibb lettuce (also called butter lettuce), the raspberry vinaigrette dressing, the seasoning on the chicken and the feta cheese. This is a complementary dish for each ingredient used.” Porto Cima chefs use only hydroponic Bibb lettuce — a living lettuce still attached to its roots — in the Chicken Insalada. Bibb lettuce is fragile and lasts only about two or three days. Visit www.livegourmet.com for information on purchasing living produce.
Porto Cima’s Chicken Insalada
8 ounces grilled chicken breast, seasoned to taste
1 head Bibb lettuce
1 tomato, cut into wedges
3 ounces of feta cheese
3 ounces Raspberry Vinaigrette dressing
Place chicken breast atop bed of lettuce, tomato and cheese. Pour dressing over all.
Raspberry Vinaigrette Dressing
6 ounces Melba sauce, strained
2 ounces honey
1/2 ounce fresh lemon juice
3 ounces raspberry vinegar
4 ounces olive oil
Blend all ingredients with a large whip. |

Swing Institute Q&A |
| A question and answer session with Jon Crane, Director of Golf, regarding Porto Cima’s new golf academy…
Why develop the Swing Institute at Porto Cima?
We decided to develop the Swing Institute as a means for members and their guests to continue to develop the skills and enjoy their golf game year-round. A majority of our members spend some wintertime in warmer climates and play a lot of golf; many travel in the winter to golf-specific destinations. When they do visit their Porto Cima home in the winter, we want them to be able to keep working on their game. Housing the Swing Institute in the Yacht Club allows us a great opportunity to provide our members with a high-quality learning experience through the winter months when the weather can be a little unpredictable.
 |
|
Throughout the rest of the year, the Swing Institute enables members to hone their skills through a level of instruction that you can’t find everywhere, through our team of golf pros and the technology we’ve brought to this golf academy. We look forward to being on the course with our members this spring and summer and seeing the strides in their game that they are able to make through the Swing Institute.
What does a session include?
A session can include the following:
- Putting analysis
- Short game evaluation
- Video swing analysis using the V1 Digital Coaching System
- Analysis using the Vector Launch Monitor to determine ball speed, swing path and more
- Professional club fitting and set composition fitting
We can also use the Titleist Performance Institute software to develop a six-week, golf-specific workout program tailored to each student's individual fitness characteristics. Visit the Swing Institute online for more information or to request a session.” |

Private Quarters Club Update |
|
| The Private Quarters Club at Porto Cima combines Porto Cima’s renowned private golf course with luxury residences for an exclusive Lake of the Ozarks living experience. The development broke ground on the first of its 20 residences in 2004; the finishing touches will go on the last of the residences during the summer of 2006. A total of 198 members, from as far away as Arizona and Florida, enjoy the privileges that the Private Quarters Club provides at Lake of the Ozarks plus access to other top private clubs across the nation.
The 1,700-square-foot Private Quarters Club luxury residences allow members to relax and easily enjoy the best of Porto Cima and the Lake area with friends and family. Conveniently located near the clubhouse and yacht club, members are moments away from the water or the golf green.
Club members also enjoy reciprocity at other Private Quarters Club locations.
Membership previews are available to qualifying individuals. After completing a tour of the properties, guests enjoy either a complimentary session at Porto Cima’s Swing Institute or a dining experience at HK’s restaurant at the Lodge of Four Seasons. Upcoming Tournaments |
| The Club at Porto Cima will host the Missouri Women’s Golf Association Amateur Championship on July 9-12, 2006.
Karen Johnson, history and publicity director for the Missouri Women’s Golf Association, says that the organization attempts to secure sites that are challenging enough to “test the best.”
“The Club at Porto Cima was chosen for its excellent club facility, staff and championship golf course,” she says. “It will provide an excellent test as the signature Nicklaus design requires great skill throughout the layout with four very tough closing holes. The abundance of water on the course and risk reward holes will test our best women golfers in Missouri and should truly determine the best champion this year in an exciting finish.” |
